Race 1 Dinnington 04/05/17

The NMRRL returned with its first race of the year on the Dinnington circuit held in cold and blustery conditions which made it particularly difficult.

A 10 man breakaway gradually established itself over the opening 2 laps consisting of defending NMRRL Champion Jack Stephenson, Dan Stephenson, Rob Mitchell, Steve Ellis (all Out of the Saddle CC), Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing), James Hill (2M RC), Joe Law (Green Jersey RT), Allan Wailoo (7 Hills CC), Andrew Whiteley (Langsett Cycles RT) & Sam Walsham (Team Bikeboxalan). By half distance (3 of the 6 laps), Hill had opened up a 12 second lead on the rest of his breakaway companions with Wailoo just getting detached and the bunch now over a minute further back. A lap later and it was Mitchell on the attack, opening up a sizeable gap which he was able to maintain going into the final lap with Hill and Walsham giving chase some 20 seconds back. At the finish, Mitchell came in alone to take a well deserved victory, but behind the rest of the breakaway had come back together during the closing lap with a counter attack forming consisting of both Stephenson brothers and Chambers-Smith. It was Chambers-Smith who won the sprint for 2nd place, 21 seconds down on Mitchell, a wheel ahead of Jack Stephenson with Dan Stephenson in 4th. Walsham & Ellis came in together for 5th & 6th places respectively, followed by Whiteley, Hill & Law. The bunch sprint for 10th place was won by Luke Hind (MI Racing Academy), just ahead of Mathew Barrowcliffe (TLI) & Wailoo.

The windy conditions took its toll on the Group C race with many riders getting dropped on the opening few laps and consequently no breakaways of any note took place until a lap to go when the Sheffrec CC duo of Chris Ashworth & Luke Porter opened up a short lead over Stephen Walker (Treny Valley RC) with the bunch a little further back. The two teammates worked well together managing to maintain their advantage right until the finish where Ashworth easily took the win ahead of Porter with Walker, to his credit, riding solo over the closing lap to take 3rd place, 16 seconds down. Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) won the bunch sprint for 4th place ahead of Edward Fisher (Tickhill Velo) & Darren Johnson-Yates (Mansfield Road Club) with Paul Young (Worrall Wheelers), Martin Gibson (7 Hills CC), Matthew Farmer (Harworth & District) & Tony Carter (Sharrow CC) rounding off the top ten.

Hopefully the weather will be a little kinder next week with the 2nd race on the Torworth circuit.

Race 2 Torworth 11/05/17

The second round of races of the 2017 NMRRL were held on the Torworth circuit featuring Groups B & C in sunny conditions.

In the Group B race, a group of 4 riders consisting of James Gough (Barnsley Road Club), Euan Crehan (Dinnington RC), Robert Perry (Maxx RT) & Dominic Watts (Veloviewer) opened up a a 10 second gap at the end of the 1st of 7 laps and, a lap later, Watts had continued his effort, this time in the company of Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) with the gap still at 10 seconds on the bunch. The leading duo managed to maintain their advantage for another lap and a half before being brought back. With 3 laps to go, Crehan, Gough & Brett Daughtrey (Out Of The Saddle CC) opened up a small gap but the whole field was back together again with 2 laps to go and it stayed that way until the finish.

In the bunch sprint, David Joyce (7 Hills CC) was the clear winner with Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) in 2nd and Watts in 3rd. The Maxx RT duo of John Vardy & Perry were in 4th & 5th places respectively with Laud, Kris Dunn (& Hills CC), Zach Law (TLI), Jason Elliott (Dinnington RC) & Jonathan Pupius (7 Hills CC) rounding off the top ten.

The Group C race saw little in the way of breakaways with only Alex Wright (7 Hills CC) opening up a small gap of any significance at the end of the 2nd lap. After that, the race basically stayed together until the finish where Wright proved to be the strongest taking a clear win ahead of Stephen Walker (Trent Valley RC) in 2nd and Paul Young (Worrall Wheelers) in 3rd. The rest of the placings were close with David Todd (7 Hills CC) in 4th ahead of last week's Group C winner, Chris Ashworth & Luke Porter (both Sheffrec CC) in 5th and 6th places respectively.
After 2 races, Walker now holds the lead in the Group C Overall Standings, but just one point ahead of Ashworth with Porter in 3rd, Young in 4th & Wright's win taking him into 5th place.

Race 3 Dinnington 18/05/17

The 3rd race of the NMRRL was held at Dinnington in atrocious conditions which resulted in the races being reduced by a third to 4 laps.

The Group A race stayed together until an incident split the bunch on the 2nd lap with a small group consisting of Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC), James Quixall (Geared Up Cycles) & Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) opening up a 14 second lead. With a lap to go, Quixall still held a 5 second lead over Xavier Scott (Andy Moore Autocentre RT) with the bunch not far behind.

At the Finish Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres RT) won a closely fought sprint ahead of Dan Stephenson, Jack Stephenson, Steve Ellis, Mitchell, Ian Davenport, Daryl Plant (all Out of the Saddle CC) with Marc Hughes (Common Lane Occasionals), Adam Quixall (Langsett Cycles RT) and James Quixall rounding off the top ten.
After 2 races, Chambers-Smith takes over the lead in the Group A Overall Standings ahead of Mitchell with Dan & Jack Stephenson tied in 3rd place.

Group B stayed together throughout the duration of the race with little in the way of attacks. The bunch sprint was won by Jake Hagyard (Rutland CC) ahead of Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) and David Clarke (Harworth & District CC) with 1st race winner David Joyce (7 Hills CC) in 4th place.

Feetham's second successive 2nd place puts him into the lead in the Group B Overall standings ahead of Joyce with John Vardy (Maxx RT) in 3rd place.

Race 4 Serlby 25/05/17

The fourth round of races of this years NMRRL were held on the Serlby circuit in hot, sunny conditions featuring Groups B & C.

In the Group B race, Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) opened up a 10 second lead on the bunch at the end of the 1st of the 6 laps but the race was back together a lap later. It stayed that way until 2 laps to go when James Gough (Barnsley Road Club) held a 9 second advantage but was soon brought back. The race stayed together over the remaining distance and the bunch sprint was won by David Joyce (7 Hills CC) ahead of teammate Lee Grieve, Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) in 3rd place with Laud in 4th and Jacob Perkins (7 Hills CC) in 5th.

Joyce's 2nd win takes him into the lead in the Group B Overall Standings with Feetham not far behind in 2nd and Laud moving into 3rd.

The Group C race saw little action with no breakaways of any significance until the start of the final lap when Alex Wright (7 Hills CC) opened up an 11 second lead over the rest of the field but his effort proved to be in vain as the bunch caught him during the run into the finish. Darren Johnson Yates (Mansfield Road Club) timed his sprint to perfection to take the win, several lengths ahead of Edward Fisher (Tichill Velo) in 2nd with David Todd (7 Hills CC), Paul Young (Worrall Wheelers) & Matthew Farmer (Harworth & District CC) in 3rd, 4th & 5th places respectively.

Race 5 Dinnington 01/06/17

The fifth round of races of this years NMRRL were held on the Dinnington circuit in dry, sunny conditions featuring Groups A & C.

In the Group A race, Robert Fowler (Rutland CC) opened up a 5 second lead over Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) at the end of the 1st lap with the bunch not too far behind. A lap later and it was the turn of Dan Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) to attempt a breakaway with the bunch just 5 seconds back. By half distance, a group of 6 riders consisting of Fowler, Bradley Hatfield (Out of the Saddle CC), Luke Hind (MI Racing Academy), Andrew Whiteley (Langsett Cycles RT), Sam Walsham (Team Bikeboxalan) & Mathew Barrowcliffe (TLI) was establishing itself with Andrew Cutts (Team Bottrill/HSS Hire) trying to get across, 8 seconds behind and the bunch a further 7 seconds adrift. With 2 laps to go, Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) had managed to jump across to the break with Hatfield having to drop back due to mechanical problems and the bunch still chasing hard some 20 seconds behind. At the bell, it was looking good for the leading group with their advantage having increased to 27 seconds.

Mitchell attacked in the closing miles causing the breakaway group to splinter and soloing in to take his 2nd Group A win with Walsham taking 2nd place, 6 seconds back and Hind outsprinting Whiteley for 3rd place followed by Fowler & Barrowcliffe in 5th & 6th places respectively. Jack Stephenson won the bunch sprint for 7th place, over a minute behind Mitchell with nothing separating Aaron Chambers-Smith & Joe Law (Green Jersey RT) for 8th.

Mitchell takes over the lead in the Group A Overall Standings with Chambers-Smith moving down to 2nd and current NMRRL Champion Jack Stephenson in 3rd place.

In the Group C race, Julia Van Campen (Sheffrec CC) was the first to open up a gap at the start of the 2nd lap but the bunch was soon back together again. The rest of the race saw little in the way of action with no breakaways of any significance until the start of the final lap when a group of 5 riders opened up a small advantage of just 5 seconds.
One of those riders, Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) attacked in the run into the finish, managing to hold off the bunch with Darren Johnson Yates (Mansfield Road Club) taking a clear 2nd place, 4 seconds behind. Chris Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) was in 3rd place ahead of Edward Fisher (Tickhill Velo) & Paul Young (Worrall Wheelers).

Ashworth retained his lead in the Group C Overall Standings with Johnson Yates moving into 2nd followed by Young & Fisher in 3rd & 4th places respectively.

Race 6 Torworth 08/06/2017

The sixth round of races of this years NMRRL were held on the Torworth circuit in dry, sunny but blustery conditions featuring Groups B & C.

In the Group B race, Harry Lewis (Joe's Bikes) opened up a 10 second lead on Lee Grieve (7 Hills CC) at the end of the 2nd of the 7 laps, with the bunch a further 5 seconds behind, but the windy conditions were making it difficult for anyone trying a solo breakaway and the race was back altogether a lap later. With 3 laps to go, it was the turn of Dominic Watts (Veloviewer) to go it alone with the bunch 20 seconds back and a lap later, Watts was still out in front but the bunch had reduced his advantage to just 10 seconds and Watts' effort was cancelled out soon after. At the bell, a trio of riders consisting of Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals), Jason Elliott (Dinnington RC) & Richard Wilkinson (Rutland CC) had gained a 15 second lead and with the trio working well together the move looked more promising. This breakaway finally succeeded with Laud proving to be the strongest at the finish to take the win ahead of Elliott with Wilkinson having been dropped. The bunch sprint for 3rd place was won by Lewis ahead of Robert Perry (Maxx RT) with Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) in 5th.

After 4 races, Feetham is the the new leader in the Group B Overall Standings with David Joyce (7 Hills CC) dropping down one place and Laud's win taking him into 3rd.

In the Group C race, there were little in the way of attacks until 3 laps to go when Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) gained a small advantage over Chris Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) & Alex Wright (7 Hills CC) with the bunch not too far behind but the move was soon brought back. The bunch stayed together over the closing laps until the finish where Darren Johnson Yates (Mansfield Road Club) showed himself to be the strongest sprinter in Group C with his 2nd win, well clear of Nelson in 2nd with Edward Fisher (Tickhill Velo) in 3rd. Scott dawson (Worrall Wheelers) & Wright rounded off the top 5.

Johnson Yates now moves into the lead in the Group C Overall Standings with Ashworth in 2nd followed by Fisher & Nelson in 3rd & 4th places respectively.

Race 7 Serlby 15/06/2017

The seventh round of races of this years NMRRL were held on the Serlby circuit in dry & blustery conditions featuring Groups A & C.

The Group A race sprang into life on the the 2nd of the 6 laps when a breakaway consisting of Jack Stephenson, Steve Ellis (both Out of the Saddle CC), Robert Fowler (Rutland CC) & Nick Boden (Common Lane Occasionals) opened up a 25 second lead on the bunch. A lap later, the leading quartet were holding their advantage with Andrew Whiteley (Langsett Cycles RT) trying to bridge the gap in between. With 2 laps to go, the bunch had managed to bring the breakaways back and it was the turn of James Hill (2M Racing Club) to attack, opening up a 10 second lead over the rest of the field. At the bell, it was all change again with John Smith (Out of the Saddle CC) attacking with Fowler & Boden, 8 seconds behind and the bunch at 15 seconds.

However, after a very eventful race full of attacking riding throughout, the bunch weren't letting anyone get away and we had our first Group A bunch sprint which was won by Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) several lengths ahead of Dan Stephenson, with Joe Law (Green Jersey RT) in 3rd, Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) in 4th & Ellis in 5th.

The win enabled Chambers-Smith to retake the lead in the Group A Overall Standings with Jack Stephenson moving into 2nd, ahead of previous leader Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) who was the big loser on the day being unplaced & Dan Stephenson in joint 3rd.

The Group C race was also ridden at a fast pace which made it difficult for any breakaway attempts to gain an advantage. Julia Van Campen (Sheffrec CC) opened up a small gap at the end of the 2nd lap but was soon brought back and with 2 laps to go, Chris Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) held a 5 second lead but the race was back altogether by the bell and it stayed that way until the finish where Darren Johnson Yates (Mansfield Road Club) showed himself, once again, to be the strongest sprinter in Group C with his 3rd win, with Ashworth still managing 2nd place & Edward Fisher (Tickhill Velo) in 3rd. Steve Jackson (Sheffrec CC) & Michael Moore (Harworth & District CC) rounded off the top 5.

Johnson Yates' 2nd successive win increases his lead in the Group C Overall Standings with both Ashworth & Fisher retaining their 2nd & 3rd places respectively.

Race 8 Dinnington 22/06/2017

The halfway point of this years NMRRL was reached with the eighth round on the Dinnington circuit in sunny & blustery conditions featuring Groups A & B.

The Group A race was eventful from the start when the duo of Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) & Xavier Scott (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) opened up a 20 second by the end of the first lap. A lap later and the two leaders had been joined by Steve Ellis, Rob Mitchell, Dan Stephenson (all Out of the Saddle CC) & Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) but the bunch were chasing hard just 12 seconds behind. With the breakaway consisting of the top 5 in the Group A Overall Standings it was always likely to succeed and at half distance, their advantage had increased to 20 seconds and a lap later, further still to 38 seconds. With 1 lap to go, defending NMRRL Champion, Jack Stephenson, attacked, opening up a 16 second lead over the rest of the breakaways with the bunch now over one minute behind. At the finish, Stephenson was strong enough to stay away and take his first NMRRL win of this year with Mitchell taking 2nd place ahead of Dan Stephenson & Chambers-Smith, 21 seconds behind. Ellis took 5th ahead of Scott, a few seconds further back. Mark Turner (Dinnington RC) won the bunch sprint for 7th place ahead of Daryl Plant (Out of the Saddle CC) with Joe Law (Green Jersey RT) & Marc Hughes (Common Lane Occasionals) rounding off the top ten.

After 5 races, Chambers-Smith retained his lead in the Group A Overall standings, with Jack Stephenson closing the gap in 2nd, Mitchell in 3rd & Dan Stephenson in 4th with less than 8 points covering them all.

Euan Crehan (Dinnngton RC) attacked on the opening lap in the Group B race and held a 20 second lead over the bunch. A lap later and he was joined by David Joyce (7 Hills CC) but the duo held a slender 10 seconds advantage on the rest of the field. At half distance and the front of the race had split into several small groups with only a few seconds between each of them and the bunch less than 20 seconds behind the leaders. With 2 laps to go, the race was all back together and it stayed that way until the closing stages when James Gough (Barnsley Road Club) attacked and soloed his way to finish to take the win. William Hagyard (Rutland CC) won the bunch sprint for 2nd place ahead of his brother Jake Hagyard (Rutland CC) in 3rd, with Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) & Harry Lewis (Joe's Bikes) in 4th & 5th places respectively, 17 seconds down on Gough.

The top three places remained the same in the Overall Group B Standings, with Feetham retaining his lead over Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) & Joyce, with Jake Hagyard moving into 4th place.

Race 9 Torworth 29/06/2017

The 9th round of the NMRRL was held on the Torworth circuit in cloudy, dry & calm conditions featuring Groups A & C.

There were attacks early on in the Group A race and by the end of the 1st lap the duo of John Smith (Out of the Saddle CC) & Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) had opened up a 15 second lead over the rest of the field. A lap later and Smith had been joined by a large chasing group consisting of Dan Stephenson, Ian Davenport, Daryl Plant (all Out of the Saddle CC), Nick Boden (Common Lane Occasionals), Adam Quixall (Langsett Cycles RT), Luke Hind (MI Racing Academy), Allan Wailoo (7 Hills CC), Sam Walsham (Team Bikeboxalan) & Mathew Barrowcliffe (TLI) with the bunch 35 seconds behind and Allen having to drop back and eventually retire after an unfortunate mechanical problem. With 4 laps to go, the gap for the breakaway group had increased to 43 seconds and with the top 3 in the Overall Standings playing cat and mouse tactics with each other back in the bunch, the gap was gradually increasing towards the 1 minute mark. It was at this point that Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) attacked solo from the bunch, but with 3 to go, he still had a job on his hands being 50 seconds down on the breakaways who were still working well together, with what was left of the bunch a further 20 seconds back.

At 2 to go, Mitchell had reduced the deficit to 32 seconds with the bunch (now smaller than the leading group) at 1 and a half minutes behind the leaders. At the bell, Mitchell was just 12 seconds behind and about to catch the leaders. However, during the closing lap, Mitchell carried on his effort, storming past the leading group with only Stephenson being able to jump onto his teamate's wheel. The duo then stayed away until the finish, where Stephenson took the win over Mitchell with Walsham winning the sprint for 3rd place ahead of Boden & Smith, 12 seconds back. Davenport, Hind, Quixall, Barrowcliffe & Wailoo rounded off the top ten with Plant just a few seconds further back. From the remnants of the field, Andrew Whiteley (Langsett Cycles RT) jumped away to take 12th place, over 2 and a half minutes behind the winner.

After 6 races, with both the previous top two in the Group A Overall Standings, Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) & Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) both missing out on even the minor placings, Dan Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) is the new leader but just one point ahead of his teamate Rob Mitchell.

The Group C race was very quiet in comparison with no breakaways of any note so it was no surprise that the race went to a bunch sprint where Alex Wright (7 Hills CC) was the clear winner ahead of Chris Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) & Darren Johnson-Yates (Mansfield Road Club) with David Todd (7 Hills CC) & Luke Porter (Sheffrec CC) in 4th & 5th places respectively.

There was little change in the Group C Overall Standings with Johnson-Yates maintaining his lead over Ashworth with the absent Edward Fisher (Tickhill Velo) in 3rd place.

Race 10 Serlby 06/07/2017

The 10th round of the NMRRL was held on the Serlby circuit in warm, thundery conditions featuring Groups A & B.

After one lap of the Group A race, defending NMRRL Champion Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) had attacked and held a 25 second lead over the rest of the field, however, a lap later and the race was all back together with a new breakaway group just in the process of forming. At half distance, the 8 man group consisting of Stephenson, Steve Ellis, Bradley Hatfield (all Out of the Saddle CC), Joe Law (Green Jersey RT), Adam Quixall, Andrew Whiteley (both Langsett Cycles RT), Robert Fowler (Rutland CC) & Mathew Barrowcliffe (TLI) had opened up a 35 seconds lead over the bunch with James Hill (2M Racing Club) in between trying to bridge the gap. With 2 laps to go, the breakaways advantage had increased slightly to 40 seconds with the bunch still chasing hard. At the bell, the gap had increased further to 50 seconds over James Mappin (Geared Up Cycles) who had attacked from the bunch who were now at 1 minute.

At the finish, in a tightly contested sprint, it was Hatfield who proved to be the quickest just half a wheel ahead of Law with Ellis in 3rd, Whiteley in 4th followed by Stephenson, Barrowcliffe & Quixall in that order with Fowler having being dropped on the final lap.

The bunch sprint for 9th place was won by Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) ahead of his Overall rivals Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) & Dan Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC), which meant that after 7 races, Mitchell is now the new leader in the Group A Overall Standings, just one point ahead of Dan Stephenson with Jack Stephenson moving into 3rd place & Chambers-Smith dropping back to 4th.

The Group B race was run off at a hectic pace with the first 2 laps being even faster than the early laps in the Group A race. This made it difficult for any breakaway attempts and thus the race stayed together throughout its duration. The hotly contested bunch sprint was won by Harry Lewis (Joe's Bikes) ahead of William Hagyard (Rutland CC) in 2nd & David Joyce (7 Hills CC) in 3rd with Jake Hagyard (Rutland CC) & Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) rounding off the top five.

After 6 races, Feetham retained his lead in the Group B Overall Standings with Joyce moving into 2nd place & Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) dropping back to 3rd.

Race 11 Dinnington 20/07/2017

The 12th race of the season was held in dry, warm conditions on the Torworth Circuit.

Andrew Whiteley (Langsett Cycles RT) was the first rider to attack and gain an advantage. On the second lap he was joined by Daryl Plant (Out of the Saddle CC) and Sam Walsham (Team Bike Box Alan). Later on the same lap Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle) and Adam Quixall (Langsett Cycles RT) jumped across to the leading 2 riders to make it 5 in the breakaway. This group worked well together over the remaining laps and pulled away to finish almost 2 minutes up on the bunch. It was Sam Walsham who won ahead of the original instigator, Andrew Whiteley and Rob Mitchell claimed 3rd. Dan Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) claimed the bunch sprint for 6th with the Out of the Saddle Pairing of John Smith and defending veteran champion, Steve Ellis in 7th and 8th respectively.

Race 12 Torworth 13/07/2017

The 11th round of this years NMRRL was held on the Dinnington circuit in overcast but dry conditions featuring Groups B & C.

The Group B race was run off at a fast pace which made it difficult for any breakaways to gain an advantage and it wasn't until half distance with 3 laps to go (of the 6) that a group consisting of James Gough (Barnsley Road Club), Jason Elliott (Dinnington RC), Brett Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC), Jake Hagyard & Alexander Prince (both Rutland CC) finally managed to open up a gap of just 10 seconds on the bunch. With 2 laps to go, the breakaway had established itself and increased their lead to 25 seconds. At the bell, with the breakaway working really well together, it was looking good as their advantage was now 25 seconds over Dominic Watts (Veloviewer), who was trying to get across with the bunch now 55 seconds in arrears.

In the closing miles, it was Gough who attacked to take the his 2nd Group B win, 11 seconds ahead of Elliott, with Hagyard outsprinting team-mate Prince for 3rd and Daughtrey holding off the bunch for 5th. William Hagyard (Rutland CC) easily won the bunch sprint for 6th place ahead of John Catley (Barnsley Road Club) & Lee Grieve (7 Hills CC).
After 7 of the 10 races, the absent Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) still leads the Overall Group B Standings ahead of Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) & David Joyce (7 Hills CC).

The Group C race saw action from the start with a breakaway featuring Darren Johnson Yates (Mansfield Road Club), Alex Wright (7 Hills CC), Chris Ashworth, Luke Porter (both Sheffrec CC) & Andrew Clarkson (Worksop Wheelers) opening up an 18 second lead on the bunch by the end of the first lap with Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) & Matthew Farmer (Harworth & District CC) inbetween trying to bridge the gap. By the end of the 2nd lap, Nelson had made it across to make it 6 at the front with the bunch now just over a minute behind. With the breakaway consisting of such strong riders all working well together, it was no surprise that the gap continued to grow over the remaining laps and by the bell, their advantage was now just under 2 and a half minutes.
At the finish, Ashworth proved to be the strongest in the sprint taking the win ahead of Johnson-Yates & Porter with Wright & Nelson in 4th & 5th just a few seconds further back. Clarkson took 6th having been dropped in the closing stages. Edward Fisher (Tickhill Velo) won the bunch sprint for 7th place ahead of Michael Moore (Harworth & District CC) & Steve Jackson (Sheffrec CC), but well over 3 minutes behind Ashworth.

With 2 Group C races remaining, Johnson-Yates remains the leader in the Group C Overall Standings, with Ashworth closing the gap slightly in 2nd place and Fisher in 3rd.

Race 13 Torworth 20/07/2017

The 13th race of the series was held on the rolling Dinnington circuit. Riders departed the HQ in cloudy but dry conditions with a stiff breeze. The fist lap saw a heavy downpour that made for wet conditions for the early part of the race.

Group A started fast and on lap 2 a trio of riders came into the finishing straight 22 seconds ahead of the bunch. The 3 riders headed by James Hill (2M Racing), Steve Ellis (Out of the Saddle) and Robert Fowler (Rutland CC) were working well together with Robert Mitchell (Out of the Saddle) trying to bridge the gap with the bunch strung out with the high pace. The three continued to work well together and by the end of lap 3 they were 46 seconds ahead of a peloton that lacked any sign of a chase. The closing stages saw the sun come out and the trio continued to forge out their advantage to just over a minute with one lap to go. At the finish James Hill rode in to take the win, well clear of Ellis and Fowler, having counter attacked Fowler after his move came to nothing on the final climb.

The bunch came in 2:14 down on the leaders with Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Auto Centres Racing) narrowly beating Gavin Alcock (7 Hills CC) and Luke Hind (MI Racing Academy). The Out of the Saddle pairing of Dan Stephenson and Robert Mitchell claimed 7th and 8th with Joe Law (Green Jersey) and Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) rounding off the top 10.

Group C were all together for the first 3 laps until a group of 10 broke clear through the finish line at the start of lap 4 with a 14 second gap to a small group of chasers. This group stayed clear with Darren Johnson Yates (Mansfield Road Club) winning the bunch sprint ahead of Alex Wright (7 Hills CC) and Chris Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) rounding off the top 3. The rest of the bunch came in 1:21 down on the 10 leaders with Chico Taylor (Rutland CC) claiming 11th ahead of Stephen Makin (Doncaster Wheelers), Rod Eggink (Mansfield Road Club), Tim Hastings (Rutland CC) and Jo Jebb (Common Lane Occasionals) rounded off the top 15.

Race 13 Torworth 20/07/2017

The penultimate races of this year's NMRRL were contested by Groups B & C on the Serlby circuit in dry, blustery conditions.

The Group B race sprung into action on the 2nd of the 6 laps when a group consisting of John Catley (Barnsley RC), Brett Daughtrey (Out of the Saddle CC), Chris Last (Planet X) & Alistair Kay (VeloVitesse) opened up a 12 second on the bunch. On the 3rd lap, a stalled car disrupted the breakaway group forcing Kay to drop back to the bunch with the leading trio still holding a 15 second lead by the end of the lap. With 2 laps to go the breakaways had been brought back and it was the turn of Harry Lewis (Joe's Bikes) to attack and open up a 20 second gap, but at the bell, the race was all back together and a bunch sprint was looking likely.

At the finish, it was Kay who proved to be the strongest to take the win ahead of Lewis with Jake Hagyard (Rutland CC) in 3rd & Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) in 4th with the Maxx RT duo of Robert Perry & John Vardy in 5th & 6th places respectively. However, the finish was marred by a crash with David Joyce (7 Hills CC) coming down heavily and requiring hospital treatment.

With one race to go, Feetham regained the lead in the Group B Overall Standings with Hagyard moving into 2nd place. Joyce's misfortune has dropped him down to 3rd with his injuries putting him out of the final Group B race next week. Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) in 4th place also has the opportunity to take the Group B title.

The Group C race set a fast pace for their opening lap but then slowed up and the bunch stayed together until the closing stages of the penultimate lap when Luke Porter (Sheffrec CC) attacked, opening up a 12 second lead by the bell. Porter continued with his effort over the closing lap to take a well deserved victory 10 seconds ahead of the duo of Andrew Clarkson (Worksop Wheelers) & Matthew Farmer (Harworth & District CC) who had attacked the bunch in the final stages of the race. Darren Johnson Yates (Mansfield Road Club) virtually assured of the Group C Overall title coming into the race, won the bunch sprint for 4th place ahead of his nearest rival Chris Ashworth (Sheffrec CC) with Martin Gibson (7 Hills CC) in 6th place.

Johnson Yates confirmed his win in the Group C Overall Standings ahead of Ashworth with the absent Edward Fisher (Tickhill Velo) & Martin Nelson (Out of the Saddle CC) retaining 3rd & 4th places respectively. Porter's win took him into a tie for 5th place with Alex Wright (7 Hills CC).

Race 15 Dinnington 10/08/2017

The final races of this year's NMRRL were contested by Groups A & B on the Dinnington circuit in warm, calm conditions with both the Group A & Group B titles still to be decided.

The first breakaway in the Group A race established itself on the 2nd of the 6 laps when Jack Stephenson, Bradley Hatfield (both Out of the Saddle CC) & Xavier Scott (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) opened up a 15 second lead on the bunch with James Hill (2M Racing Club) in between trying to bridge the gap. A lap later at half distance, Hill had made it across to make 4 at the front with Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) 16 seconds behind and the bunch at 24 seconds. With 2 laps to go, it was looking good for the breakaways as they had increased their advantage to 48 seconds and the bunch had eased up slightly realising that there was little chance of reeling in the leaders and at the bell, the gap had increased further to just over 1 minute. Stephenson proved to be the strongest at the finish outsprinting Hill to take the win with Hatfield taking 3rd place ahead of Scott a few seconds behind. During the final lap the bunch had to slow down to allow the fast Group B race through and the minor placings were going to decide who would take the Overall Group A title.

Aaron Chambers-Smith (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing) took the bunch sprint for 5th place ahead of Dan Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC), Andrew Cutts (Team Bottrill/HSS Hire), Steve Ellis (Out of the Saddle CC) with Gavin Alcock (7 Hills CC) & Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC) rounding off the top ten.

The result meant that Mitchell held onto the lead in the Group A Overall Standings to take the NMRRL title by the slenderest of margins, just 1 point from team mate Dan Stephenson with Chambers-Smith just holding onto 3rd place.

Group B race set off at a fast pace right from the start and after 1 lap, John Catley (Barnsley RC) had opened up an 18 second lead on the bunch but a lap later the race was all back together. The pace continued to be quick throughout the rest of the race which made it difficult for anyone trying to get away and one victim was Group B contender Jake Hagyard (Rutland CC) who, coming into the race, had a great chance of taking the Group B title with leader Jacob Feetham (BBM Revolution CC) away on holiday & 3rd placed David Joyce (7 Hills CC) absent due to his injuries sustained the week before.

During the last lap, the Group B race had to overtake the Group A bunch and at the finish, Alexander Prince (Rutland CC) won the sprint to take his first NMRRL win ahead of Lee Grieve (7 Hills CC) with Harry Lewis (Joe's Bikes) in 3rd, Pete Laud (Common Lane Occasionals) in 4th and Catley taking 5th place a few seconds further back.

The result meant that Laud's 4th place wasn't enough to overtake Feetham in the Overall Standings, and Feetham takes the NMRRL Group B title just 2 points ahead of Laud with Hagyard dropping back to 3rd place and Joyce also missing out on a top three place in 4th.
