Race 13 Stainton Series: 24-07-08

Ideal conditions produced the fastest times of the whole series so far on the first race on the Stainton circuit. This benefitted the longmarker groups which merged with just over 3 miles to go and stayed ahead to contest the finish. Veteran Dave Marsh (Dinnington RC/Universal-Auditoria) was the winner in a tightly fought sprint with Doncaster Wheelers juniors Ben Last and Alex Wallis a close 2nd & 3rd.

Race 13 Finish:

Race 14 Stainton Series: 31-07-08

Rainy conditions reduced the field by a half and the handicap worked well with the field coming together with 4 miles remaining. Graeme Huston (Zeus CRT) tried to escape over the final run into the line but was just overtaken in the last 50 metres by the head of the fast sprinting bunch. Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) was a clear winner from Andrew Wasteney (Beighton Wheelers) and Graham Waller (Sheffrec CC) 3rd with Huston holding onto 4th place.

Race 14 Finish:

Race 15 Stainton Series: 07-08-08

Race abandoned after torrential rain.

Race 16 Stainton Series: 14-08-08

After last week's race was abandoned just after half distance due to torrential heavy rain, much better conditions produced a fast race with the scratch group working well. With 7 miles remaining just the longmarker group remained out in front by a minute and they were caught before the final lap. Lee Allen (Dinnington RC/Universal/Auditoria) won the bunch sprint ahead of Graham Waller (Sheffrec CC) with Rob Blackburn (Newark Castle CC) in 3rd place.

With 2 races to go, Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) has a 5 point lead in the Overall Series but with a race in hand over
his closest rivals, looks certain to retain his title.

Race 17 Stainton Series: 21-08-08

Good conditions produced another fast race with the scratch group working particularly well and as a result the whole field came together with just under 3 miles to go. Dave Pratt (Beighton Wheelers) won a tightly fought bunch sprint ahead of Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC) and Lee Allen (Dinnington RC/Universal-Auditoria).

With only one race to go, Etches now has an unassailable lead in the Overall Series and thus has retained his title, but all the other final positions in the top ten are still to be determined as well as most of the category prizes which go the riders who finish outside of the first ten in the Overall Series.

The prize presentation will take place on the 25th October at the NMRRL 30th Anniversary Dinner where Malcolm Elliott (the first winner of the NMRRL) is the guest of honour.
 

Race 17 Finish:

Race 18 Stainton Series: 28-08-08

After a bright afternoon, sudden cloudy conditions reduced the final race of the 2008 North Midlands Road Race League to 20.4 miles. The handicap worked well with the whole race coming together with 2 miles remaining and in a tightly fought bunch sprint Marc Etches (Sheffrec CC), already the 2008 Series Champion, was a clear winner ahead of team mate Graham Waller with Andrew Wasteney (Beighton Wheelers) in 3rd. Waller's 2nd place moved him into 2nd place
in the Overall Series ahead of Lee Allen (Dinnington RC/Universal-Auditoria).

This year's NMRRL Prize Presentation will take place at the NMRRL 30th Anniversary Dinner to be held on the 25th October where Malcolm Elliott, the first NMRRL Champion, is the guest of honour.
